Capt. Ruben E. Iglesias
President, Borinken Marine Group
Captain Ruben Iglesias obtained a bachelor’s degree in Marine Operations and a 3rd Mate’s License in May 2001 from the State University of New York Maritime College. He worked during his summer vacations for four (4) consecutive years with Puerto Rico Towing & Barge Co. In 2003, he joined Capt. Iglesias & Associates Inc. (CI&A). He was instrumental in the development of CI&A services and a key factor in the negotiation of CI&A’s main contracts. Founder and president of Borinken Marine Group, LLC since 2013. He presently holds a valid 2nd Mate’s Unlimited License and a 1,600 Master’s License issued by the US Coast Guard.

Ruben Iglesias
President
Capt. Iglesias is the President and co-Owner of Borinken Marine Group and its subsidiaries. He is a graduate of the prestigious SUNY Maritime College in New York. Capt. Iglesias holds a Bachelors Degree in Science. After graduating in 2001, he worked as a deck officer in sea-going ships for Keystone Tankers and Crowley Maritime until 2006. He presently holds a valid 2nd Mate Unlimited License and a 1,600 Master’s License issued by the US Coast Guard. Capt. Iglesias has been at the helm of Borinken Marine Group LLC and its subsidiaries since its founding in 2006. Under his command the Company has grown steadily under a very hard economic environment. Today the Company Owns & Operates 13 vessels which work in 3 different business lines.
- Bulk Oil Transportation in tank barges.
- General Cargo in bulk in decks barges.
- Salvage Support & Rescue Towing. Capt. Iglesias is in charge of the overall management of the Company.

Capt. Carlos X. Acosta
Vice President
Captain Carlos X. Acosta obtained a bachelor’s degree in Marine Operations in May 2002. Since his graduation he has worked for the Master Mates & Pilots Union, the Military Sealift Command, J Ray McDermott, Horizon, Puerto Rico Tug & Barge Co., and many others. He is co-founder and vice-president of Borinken Marine Group, LLC since 2013. Presently holds a valid 2nd Mate’s Unlimited License and a 1,600 Master’s License issued by the US Coast Guard.

Carlos X. Acosta
Vice President
Capt. Acosta is the Vice-President and co-Owner of Borinken Marine Group LLC. Carlos Xavier graduated from the prestigious Sunny Maritime College (SUNY) in New York in May 2002. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Science. After graduating Carlos Xavier went to sea as a deck officer for the Master Mates & Pilots Union, the Military Sea Lift Command, J Ray McDermott, Horizon, Puerto Rico Tug & Barge Inc., and many others. He presently holds a valid 2nd Mate Unlimited License and a 1,600 Master’s License issued by the US Coast Guard. In 2006 he co-founded Borinken Marine Group LLC. Since then he has been working hand in hand with his Partner (Capt. Iglesias) to develop the solid Marine transportation Company that Borinken Marine Group LLC (BMG) is today. Carlos Javier is in charge of the Operations Department of the Company

Capt. Raul E. Iglesias
Director of Planning & Development
Captain Raul E. Iglesias commenced his career in 1965 as an ordinary seaman with the Porto Rico Lighterage Co. In 1970 he obtained his first license and started working as mate and relief captain in ocean voyages between the US Gulf and Puerto Rico. In 1972, he was appointed to a permanent master’s position. In 1976, Crowley Maritime Corp. acquired the assets of the Porto Rico Lighterage Co. and he was offered a Port Captain’s position. Crowley Maritime Corporation was the largest tug and barge company in the United States. Very soon after that several new 9,000 HP ocean tugs and 730 ft. container barges (the largest in the world at that time) where operating out of the Port of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rican operation would become one of Crowley’s most important business units at a worldwide level. Between 1976 and 1999 Capt. Iglesias worked for Crowley Maritime Corporation in several operations positions of increasing responsibilities, including: Operations Manager in Jacksonville and Puerto Rico; and General Manager and Vice President of CMS, Caribbean Services in Puerto Rico. During his fifty three (53) year career in the tug and barge industry, twenty-three (23) of them with Crowley Maritime Corporation, Captain Iglesias has been involved with all aspects of towing: Ship Docking, Oil Barge Towing, General Towing, Rescue Tows, Salvage, Pushing and Inland Towing. He also served two (2) years as Vice-President/President of the Pilot Advisory Board of Puerto Rico Authority and four (4) years as an active member of the Towing Safety Advisory Committee (TSAC) of the US Department of Transportation. In 1999, he separated from Crowley Maritime to pursue a longtime desire to become an independent marine consultant and broker. During the last nineteen (20) years Capt. Iglesias & Associates Inc. has performed jobs for Bacardi Corp., Hovensa Ltd., Hess Oil Co., Grupo Carmelo Inc., Seacoast Towing Inc., Global Offshore International Ltd., the PR Harbor Pilot Commission, American Tugs Inc., Titan Maritime Ltd., Alexakos & Simpson, Resolve Marine Group and many other well-known companies. He joined Borinken Marine Group, LLC in 2013.
